Of Irish and Ecuadorian descent, Christina Maria Aguilera was born on December 18, 1980, on Staten Island, New York and later moved with her family to Wexford, Pittsburgh, where Aguilera began performing at school talent shows.
Her first TV appearance came at 8 years of age on Star Search and by 10 she was invited to sing the Star Spangled Banner at a Pittsburgh Steelers game.
Later, as a member of Disney's Mickey Mouse Club, she would appear with future pop stars Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.
By the late 90's she signed with RCA Records who produced her self-titled debut album launching her first hit, Genie In A Bottle, which went on to top the charts both in the U.S. and Britain.
Aguilera followed that with her second album, Stripped, which featured top hits such as Dirrty and Beautiful.
In 2005 , Aguilera announced her engagement to long-time boyfriend and music executive, Jordan Bratman who presented the pop star with a 20-karat diamond ring worth $54,000 designed by celebrity jeweler Stephen Webster.
In November, the couple's anticipated wedding was reported by People magazine to have taken place in California's Napa Valley with Aguilera taking her wedding vows in a Christian Lacroix wedding dress.
In 2006, the pop star posed nude for a GQ magazine photoshoot and that same year released her third album, "Back to Basics", and from that album won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Ain't No Other Man". She was also a front runner in a list of nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards.
She has since been touring around the world, with a notable TV guest appearance on Saturday Night Live in 2007.
Offstage, the pop sensation gave birth on January 12, 2008 to her first baby, a boy named Max Liron Bateman, by C-section with husband Jordan Bratman. The couple later received $1.5 million for Max's first baby photos by People Magazine.
